Highchair happiness

Anna had her first meal in a highchair today! She's starting sitting up on her own for short periods of time, and sitting with a little assistance really well, so we decided it was time to graduate from having dinner in the swing to the highchair! The first picture is from when Clint first built the chair and let Anna try it out...she thought it was the neatest thing ever! And, the second picture is her first meal in the highchair. She seems to like the chair, and definitely has room to grow into it!

Happy Half Birthday, Half Pint!

"I turned 6 months old today, and all I got was a mouthful of squash?"

Sorry DoodleBug...I tried my best to come up with a cake recipe using your current palette of "baby approved foods", but there's just a limited amount of things you can do with rice cereal, mangos, and green beans! :-) Six more months, sweetie, and you can stick your whole face in your birthday cake...

Go Jackets!

"...if I have a daughter, sir, I'll dress her in white and gold. Bring her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold..."

(please forgive any incorrect words to that segment of the Georgia Tech fight song...this is the "non-yellow jacket" posting this pic...)

Clint and Anna enjoyed some serious father-daughter bonding time during Georgia Tech's first football game of the season. This has been a much-anticipated event in our house (I think Clint's been counting the days since...well...the end of college bowl season last year...). While GT didn't quite pull out the win against (#2 ranked) Notre Dame, they did have a good showing. And, Anna got to experience the "other Daddy" that Clint turns into while intensely watching sports. The yelling startled her at first, but then she kind of got into it! I think we may have a little sports fan on our hands...

Brown-eyed girl

We can't tell for sure yet what color Anna's eyes are going to be (hazel? green? brown?), but they are definitely getting darker than the blue eyes she was born with. Her eyes and that smile definitely melt Mommy and Daddy's heart, though...

Ole!

To ensure that Anna shares our undying love of Mexican food, we decided we should introduce her to "baby guacamole" at an early age. It was really just mushed up avocados...we decided we should wait to add the jalapenos and tomatoes til she's a few months older.

We think next week we'll try some picante sauce...

School days

Yesterday was Anna's first day of "school" (ok, ok...its really just child care, but calling it "school" somehow makes me feeling better about it...:-) ). Here she is in her new dress, with her first lunch box (fully stocked with bottles and pureed pears!) and backpack (aka diaper bag).

I think yesterday was definitely harder on Clint and me than it was on her! Her teachers said that she did really well--they said she had the normal "first day" fussiness for a little while, but overall seemed to have a good time. We hope that she really enjoys school and that it helps her to make new friends and enjoy new surroundings!

Fan me...

Anna is a girl of simple requests...I mean, what baby doesn't need to be cooled with a little portable fan while she naps in the back of the car?

"Deans" List

Anna was blessed to meet her great grandmother, and namesake, yesterday in Caldwell, TX. My mom and dad (Grammie and Grandpa) went with me to introduce Anna to Grannie. Anna's middle name--Dean--is Grannie's maiden name (Bernice Dean Williams). Dean is also my mother's middle name (Joan Dean Williams Ramsey) and my middle name (Susan Dean Ramsey Baggerman). What a treasure to have all of the Deans together yesterday!

The Diva

Anna is turning into a bit of a "diva" these days! She definitely is much more aware of when people are paying attention to her, and she'll coo and make noise just to get your attention. She, of course, rewards the subsequent attention with an adorable smile and sometimes a giggle, so we're not complaining too much!

Relaxing with Grammie

Anna enjoyed spending some time with Grammie (my mom) a few weekends ago...

Ducks

Sorry its been so long since we posted anything...we finally have our ducks in a row now and are updating the blog...:-)

(Special thanks to Anna's cousin, Sydney, for this cute pic from Easter weekend. I'm not sure that her row of ducks followed whatever instructions she was issueing in this photo...)

Guys and dolls

My entire family was in town this weekend...it was so fun to have everyone here, and to see all of the little girls together! Here's a shot of them (in matching swimsuits, of course...thanks Grammie!) with my dad, Clint, and Roger (my brother-in-law). We had a great time just hanging out by the pool all weekend...

Just a swingin'

We introduced Anna to the playground for the first time this last week. Even though the swing is still a little big for her, she seemed to really like it! Or, at least be intrigued by it...we couldn't quite tell if her waving her arms was her way of saying "whee! this is great fun!", or "are you people kidding me? get me the heck out of here!"

"A" is for appreciation...

Ok, ok...the "a" originally was for "Anna", but "appreciation" seemed more appropriate this week! I was having a bit of a rough day/week on Monday, so my mom showed up at my door at lunchtime to visit with us and give me a little break. It was so sweet! She and Anna hung out while I went shopping, got a pedicure, and then had a "date" with Clintie!

Thank you so much, Grammie, for the much needed day of relaxation!!

A day at the spa...

A baby's life is such hard work that sometimes they just have to unwind and take a little siesta while their "people" bathe them...

Our new evening routine with Anna involves a walk (some days), then some relaxing pool time and bathtime, followed by a little dinner before bedtime. Its been working great to get her "unwound" from the day. I guess this day she was a little too unwound...she beat us to the punch in the whole "putting her to bed" part of the routine, and fell asleep in the tub!

Bonding time with Nana

We had a wonderful time last weekend when Nana (Clint's mom) came to visit! We went to a local winery for a tour/wine-tasting/picnic (see pic above), hung out in the pool (when the weather cooperated), and just spent a lot of time chatting and playing with Anna. Thanks for coming to see us, Nana!

File this under "adorable"...

So, I've been trying to take advantage of some of my "free time" during my maternity leave to get our house more organized so we can be more efficient when I go back to work part-time at the end of the summer. This week's project has been updating and reorganizing our filing system.

Yesterday, I layed Anna on the bed in our study and turned around to add something to my to-do list. When I turned back around, she had reached over her head and grabbed my Real Simple "what to toss, what to keep" handy-dandy filing guide. She was holding it right-side up, just like she was studying it! It pretty much cracked me up...

As a note--this picture is completely unposed. This is what I saw as soon as I turned around to get her...

Pears + rice cereal = a solid choice

Anna had her first "taste" of solid foods on Monday...rice cereal and pears! She actually took really well to it...she's still working on the whole "swallowing" thing, but she gets more than half of it down everytime, so not bad for her first week!

She's definitely liking the solid food more than she does the bottle. We're still working on pears now, but hope to move on to green beans this weekend! Oh the things we find exciting these days...

Miss American Pie

Happy 4th of July!!

Anna celebrated Independence Day by exerting her own independence in starting to eat solid foods! (More pics of that to come soon.) She's taken to pears and rice cereal quite well...we may have a little eater on our hands after all! As many of you know, we've struggled with her eating from day one...she doesn't have much of an appetite, and we've been battling reflux and esophogitis recently. We're hoping that this new transition to solid foods may help her little esophogus and tummy feel better...

As a side note--Clint and I realized that it was this weekend last year that we found out that we were expecting little Anna! What a great weekend (but so hard to keep it a secret...we were having a 4th of July party, but didn't want to tell any of our friends until we were a little further along)...
